The Performing Arts Conservatory at Notre Dame High School

The Performing Arts Conservatory at Notre Dame High School is currently the state’s only 7th grade through 12th academic program that focuses on acting, dance, voice, instrumental music, and performance theory. Powered by The VTC Academy, it offers specialized training for students who are choosing to pursue a career in the entertainment industry and offers an introduction to the life skills provided by arts training that assist students in becoming well-rounded human beings.

It is the goal of the PAC to produce students who can be successful in competitive post-secondary performing arts programs and who are life-long learners and consumers of the performing arts.

The Acting curriculum is rooted in the idea that the student’s voice, body, and imagination are their primary instruments for performance. It features classes such as The Actor’s Voice, The Actor’s Body, Elements of Improv, and Text Analysis.

The Dance curriculum will allow students to understand that movement and dance are ways of communication and self-expression. It features classes in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, and Musical Theatre.

The Voice curriculum focuses on musicianship in addition to the student’s vocal performance training. It features classes such as Materials of Music, Musicianship, Piano, Voice, and Voice for the Musical Theatre.

The Performance Theory curriculum provides students a survey of various topics designed to enrich the classroom experience of the other disciplines. It features classes in Performance History, The Production Process, Puppetry, Mime, Clowning, and Stage Combat.

Finally, Laboratory work will allow the students to prepare performances for the public and also for various local, regional, and state festivals and competitions in all disciplines of the PAC. Students will be participating in All-State Choir, Poetry Out Loud, West Virginia Theatre Association Annual Conference, the regional and state Thespian Festivals, the state Dance Festival, as well as local, regional, and the state Show Choir competitions.

In order to be a part of the PAC, students must be enrolled and attending classes at Notre Dame High School. PAC students attend core classes (Math, Science, English, Social Science, and Religion) in the mornings and spend their afternoons working in the PAC curriculum.
